What is an AME apprenticeship?

The regulatory guidelines issued for the DGCA Approved AME Colleges in India stipulates

  1. Completion of AME course in the relevant category of training & passing of Module exams conducted by the DGCA
  2. 2 years of demonstrated work experience

Before going ahead with the apprenticeship, a candidate has to secure AME Admission in the colleges offering AME courses. The Top AME colleges in India usually conducts AME entrance exam as they have limited seats to offer in different categories of aircraft maintenance training. Post selection, an inclined candidate can enroll in the AME colleges in Delhi or any other location during a counseling session and after clearance of specified AME fee structure for the said institution.

The recorded work experience or the apprenticeship is a mandatory requirement which a candidate has to demonstrate post completion of the basic training from the Best College For AME. This apprenticeship can be ascertained by producing a formal application to the maintenance organisation or an airline operator which in turn conducts an interview to assess the competency of the candidate. The work experience can be gained in the hanger environment where the maintenance activity usually goes on or in the office environment where planning, maintenance schedule, and other associated activities are carried out.

After completion of basic training & apprenticeship, a candidate can apply for the Aircraft Maintenance License to the DGCA with the demonstration of the records of training & work experience assessed by the Certifying staff of the maintenance organisation or an airline operator.
