What is a Commercial Pilot License Course and DGCA?
The commercial pilot licence course is a training program that allows you to become a professional pilot. It includes advanced flight training and theory lessons. To acquire the CPL a candidate has to undergo rigorous training which includes 200 single engine flying hours, 20 hours of multi engine rating and finally type rating for the type of aircraft on which you want your endorsement.
DGCA stands for the Directorate General of Civil Aviation. This department is the main aviation watchdog which comes under the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India. It is the regulatory body responsible for overseeing civil aviation operations in the country.
What are commercial pilot training modules?
It’s a comprehensive training program which is devised and approved based upon the regulatory requirements stipulated by as per National Aviation Authority i.e, DGCA, Commercial pilot training modules typically include a minimum 200 hours of flight training and 5 subject modules.

The cost of commercial pilot training in India can vary depending on various factors, such as a Flying Training School, location and type of aircraft used for training. Generally, the training fees can range from around Rs 45 lakhs to Rs 80 lakhs or more.
In India, the commercial pilot license exams consist of the following:
- Written Exam (conducted by DGCA): 5 subject exams which tests your theoretical and technical knowledge.
- Flight Exam: This assesses your flying skills.
- Oral Examination: This requires during RT(R) to demonstrate your professional competency.
- After successfully passing these exams, you submit your documents to DGCA to obtain a commercial pilot license.

According to DGCA, the requirements for a commercial pilot license are:
- Educational Qualification: You must have passed 10+2 with Mathematics and Physics.
- Age limit: You must be 18 years or above by the time of license application.

Commercial Pilot / Airline Pilot Salary
In India, the salary of a commercial pilot/ Airline pilot can vary depending on position, airline company, experience, fleet size and workload. After completion of Flying training, a candidate is recruited for the airline cadet training program, where they are being given an overview of the organisation and their work culture during orientation program.
After joining, a pilot is given the rank of First Officer. The salary slab in this rank varies between 1.75 to 2.5 Lacs lakhs INR. However, after acquiring the Pilot in Command position after acquiring Air Transport Pilot License or ATPL (whose eligibility arrives after acquiring minimum 7500 flying hours on the same aircraft), the annual salary of an Indian airline pilot jumps in to the bracket of Rs 6.5-10 lacs per month.
